Prächtiges Ausnahmeexemplar, hier ohne die üblicherweise eingestempelten Tafelnummern und in dekorativen Ganzmaroquinbänden des Verlags.– Henry Eeles Dresser (1838-1915) war einer der herausragenden Ornithologen seiner Zeit. Sein monumentales Werk der Vögel von Europa zeichnet sich neben der anerkannten wissenschaftlichen Qualität und dem Umfang der Arbeit vor allem durch seine hervorragenden Illustrationen aus. Sie wurden nach Zeichnungen der bekannten Vogelmaler J.G. Keulemans, J. Wolf, A. Thorburn und E. Neale geschaffen und sehr präzise koloriert. Erschienen ist das Werk in 84 Lieferungen (1871-81) plus 9 Lieferungen Supplemente (1895-96).– Der schmale Band 1, welcher am Schluß mit Subskibentenliste, Addenda, Errata und Generalindex, aber ohne weitere Abbildungen erschien, ist passend nachgebunden, ebenso wie die neue Kassette, die die 9 Supplementlieferungen in den Orig.-Umschlägen schützt.– Hervorragendes Exemplar.
